Peony Patterns Costume Party: Day 4 - Princesses Part 2

Welcome to Day 4 of the Peony Patterns Costume Party! If you're only just joining us, be sure to check out our movie costumes, Disney costumes, and princess costumes from earlier in the week! It's been so exciting seeing so many costume visions come to life! We're continually amazed at how talented our sewists are! Today we're continuing our princess theme (with their film sidekicks), so let's begin by starting under the sea!
Sea Queen
Jodie Pascoe (@clementineperiwinkle) stole our imaginations with this epic Sea Queen costume! She used the Ivy maxi dress with the Banksia bodice to slightly scoop out the front panel. To attach the seashells on the bodice, Jodie had the most success with a glue gun. Glue such as E-6000 (for attaching rhinestones to leotards) may be a good option as well. If using a glue gun, you'll need to spot clean the dress if it gets dirty. Jodie has also written a tutorial on how to attach a tulle skirt to the Ivy dress.

The Little Mermaid
Madison Victory decided to turn her toddler into Ariel's friend, Flounder! This was a simple project, using the Buttercup romper as-is. She appliqued blue sequin fabric to the front, and self-drafted the fins, stuffing them with cotton to make them a bit fuller! Sew cute!
Moana
Grissel Castillo (@alliegiselledesigns)'s baby girl is obsessed with Moana and loves to sing and dance to all the songs! To create this costume, Grissel used the Iberis bodice with the Poppy skirted romper and added an extra top skirt. She self drafted the sash. We just love how she's incorporated so many great trims into this one - she even hand sewed the necklace to the bodice!

Lucy James's (@LucyinSeattle) daughter is obsessed with a Youtube of "Shiny" (aka Tamatoa) and has been asking for a "Shiny" dress ever since she saw it! Lucy shortened the long sleeve Daffodil bodice to the length of the Wattle bodice, extended the neckband width by 1.5", and added cuffs to the bottom of the long sleeves. She used a regular length Wattle skirt with a rolled hem.
This talented crafter also created Tamatoa's shell! We love how it all came together!
Fabric: Mystique Spandex (JoAnn). Lucy recommends using Microtex needles with this shiny knit.
Princess & The Frog
Shana (@Littlemisssanaa) created this beautiful Tiana costume for her daughter using the Banksia pattern with rayon and tulle! We love the petal shape she created in the skirt!
Aladdin
We just love this beautiful Princess Jasmine costume by Annie Arana (@lunasnurseryperth)! To create this look, she used the Marigold crop top and Ivy skirt with a Powderpuff waistband. She recommends using bias binding to hem the crop.

Joy shrode (@sewforsije) also transformed her daughter into Princess Jasmine! She used the Jasmine bodice for the top and the Daffodil nappy (diaper) cover with long tulle ruffles. We love her creative use of trims in this design!

Beauty and the Beast
Janna Finn's (@classicjaneboutique) daughter loves to read and has been begging for a Belle village costume! She used the Hyacinth bodice (omitting the neck ties) with Jasmine long sleeves for the blouse. Janna used a sleeveless Jasmine for the blue dress, widening the straps. The apron was self drafted. We especially love the adorable picture with the sheep!

Brave
Ruth Alma's (@ohh_sew_chloe_zakk) daughter never ceases to amaze us with her fabulous style! Ruth created Merida using stretch panne velvet with the Wattle dress, adding extra length to the skirt and taking out some width from each side of the circle so that it wasn't as full or round. She loves how FUN, cheap and simple this project was!

Frozen
Elsa is Christine Sciankowy's (@christinesciankowy) daughter's favorite princess so there was no question she'd be creating this gown for Halloween! Christine used Marigold, lengthening the skirt to floor length and adding a tulle overlay to a portion of the skirt. She put buttons in the back instead of the front and added a placket to the skirt. To create Elsa's cape, she simply cut a long rectangle from tulle. Adding some fun sparkly shoes and a tiara really made her daughter feel like a princess!
Fabric: Kona Kona sheen, iridescent snowflake tulle, sequin fabric (upcycled from her daughter's old Elsa costume - shhh!)
Queue collective, "AWWWWWW!"
We just love this sibling Frozen set created by Lubomira Murphy (@together.with.lou)! Her daughter had been asking for an Elsa dress, so Lubomira used Marigold to make her dreams come true! She made no changes to the pattern, and simply added a mesh overlay to each pattern piece. An additional layer of tulle was added to the bottom of Powderpuff for extra length and puff.

We just can't even with this adorable Olaf! Lubomira used the Petunia romper and Waratah bonnet. She made no changes to either pattern, but added some chain-link mesh strips to the top for Olaf's hair, and snowflake embroidery from the Mistletoe hand embroidery pattern.

Finally, Ruth Alma created this Anna costume for her daughter last year, but it was too perfect not to include in this year's roundup! She used Marigold for this costume, and we just especially love how she was able to use solid fabrics and some trim to channel the Anna look - without the need for special transfers or embroidery.
